Death Before Life [Death Cult / Salvation] (Salvation Part Two)

As we mentioned in the previous post, much of Salvation is really rooted in double-meaning. The album tells two tales: trauma at the hands of religious zealots, and the trauma and realization of Jessica’s Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID).

The album starts with the songs, Death Cult and Salvation. And a common theme between both of them is the idea of “dying before living.” Whether this is rooted in the concepts of restraint before an afterlife or literally living in trauma until realization and actualization are found is a bit vague this early in the album, but it becomes clearly quickly that not is all as it seems.

DEATH CULT
Forgive them Father, for they know not what they do

Fucking death cult
False god and all
Putting death before life
Issue mankind’s fall

Lies upon lies
Sinful sirens’ call
Divine enforcement
Judgement for all

A fucking death cult
Poison faith is placed
In death during life
You live too late

Brimstone and fire
Blackmail the soul
Follow the leader
He’ll make you whole

Death cult
Death cult
Kill all when?
You kill all now

Death cult
Death cult
You kill all when?
You kill all now

Fucking death cult
Feigned good makes rot
Suicide en masse
Of your kids, their thoughts

Blood begets blood
Malice gives us fight
A fucking death cult
Go forth and die

Death cult
Death cult
You kill all when?
You kill all now

Death cult
Death cult
Dig your grave
Be on your way
SALVATION
Come for me, salvation
On to promised lands
Embrace me, salvation
Lift worlds with these hands
Enter me, salvation
From realms of shifting sand
Become me, salvation
Make my final stand

Don’t need my faith-lust
My lack of trust
My crown of thorns
My life in silent scorn
Now I shall resurrect
No feelings as I reject
No sorrow as I inspect
Your noxious lies, falsehoods, and taint

Don’t need anything from You
I reject You

Come for me, salvation
On to promised lands
Embrace me, salvation
Lift worlds with these hands
Enter me, salvation
From realms of shifting sand
Become me, salvation
Make my final stand

Don’t need my self-hate
My blackmail innate
My Stigmata
My Golgotha
Now I shall resurrect
No feelings as I reject
No sorrow as I inspect
Your noxious lies, falsehoods, and taint

Don’t need anything from You
I reject You

Come for me, salvation
On to promised lands
Embrace me, salvation
Lift worlds with these hands
Enter me, salvation
From realms of shifting sand
Become me, salvation
Make my final stand

Don’t need my misery
My hells to be
My death during life
My mortal strife
Now I shall resurrect
No feelings as I reject
No sorrow as I inspect
Your noxious lies, falsehoods, and taint

Don’t need anything from You
I reject You

In both songs, there is a clear message of suffering before life is truly had. On the surface, this appears to be from a purely religious context, but by the time Salvation hits, it becomes a little less clear. “Don’t need my misery / My hells to be / My death during life / My mortal strife,” what is actually being referred to here? As the album progresses, it becomes quite clear. Stay tuned.
